Places to see; on a dull day

Nothing quite like a visit to watch the steam wifting about at the Dye works in Stormoway on a dull day. Moments can pass in idle pleasure here.

Things to see; land based boats

Plenty of boats oop here you know. Some of them even float but not this one as it awaits its final...... something. I think there is kudos to be had by having a boat in front of one's residence what ever its state. Didn't work for us.

Things to see

You may notice these all over this island. No, it's not rubbish but prayer flags for a successful lambing. This one  believe is for a surfeit of twins.

Places to see; North Tolsta space port

Yes, the Isle of Lewis space port was instigated some years back when a few pounds were spent on the landing runway.  Unfortunately as of yet, the port has yet to be used by space ships due to threat of low flying witches.

Another Place to see while visiting the Isle of Lewis.

The Wee Man

One of the not to be missed sights in the Isle of Lewis is The Wee man who resides on the side of the road on the way to North Tolsta at the Gress end of the straight road. By the cattle grid an' all.

I'm still here

The photographic assistant was sent out on her lovely yellow bike with a fav camera of mine. Obviously she is influenced with my photographic journey but I curated the snaps all the same.

A fine example of an overly ornate former medieval church just oop the road - St Aula apparently.

I do hope you are still here so you don't miss this snap

Oooof indeed don't you know.

This neg has been lurking - goodness knows where but Keith the cat must have unearthed it and I am so glad he did. With a little bit or mucking about the image miraculously appeared from beneath the scratches and blobs. oooof.

A brilliant image even if I do say it myself. Tells you everything you need to know about who I am and the island where I live these days.

Obvs; it doesn't rain much here

Oh, I might have made a mistake. It doesn't NOT rain much here. Most days it seems that there is moisture in the air - that's why there are so many rainbows.

Rain doesn't keep Eve at home although howling wind does. Otherwise she is out on Bob [her lovely Bob Jackson bicycle. Jacksons are closed currently but have been taken over and will be producing fantastic frames again soon.]

I joined Eve's daily ride the other morning - a lovely 29km potter round the lanes - Back, Vatisker, Alpaca and Hudson loops [our names], me on the ebike but still shattered on return home to watch the remainder of the Giro's 150km super fast stage - on the computer.

Dacks please [ or something like that]

Uncle Ken wanted a snap of some Dacks - whatever they are. And I can't find of neg of any that I like so he'll have to make do with this.

OK, ok, I know I am short of material

Have not really been anywhere much but I promise that I won't snap up standing stones!

Wrong time of year

The sun has been shining which deceived me into riding the bike. It was so cold so we took off round the Castle tracks in Stormoway to be out of the cold wind. Lovely ride as it happens but I'm suffering for it today somewhat.

I don't like the sun for taking snaps. It's all too bright. The colours are too vibrant and what's more the Giro D 'Italia is happening. I have to keep abreast of such things while tinkering at home.

We know how to live. And play

A fine pitch for the local inter place match o'er at Gress with a great view of the sea and likely to be sprayed with sea water from time to time. A hardy lot.

I captured  this on the 1955 Minolta RF camera I have with Orwo N75 film. Nothing but the best.

I found more slides

Back in the day pre-post-pandemic. Pre Brexit and everything and before the new owner of the Harris Tweed Mill in Lewis sold this cloth and reverted to two or maybe three boring patterns, they used to have billions of patterns. I snook in there for a looksee before they disappeared. They were sold onto someone in Harris who now sells the stuff from there - along with other lovely new bright tweeds from other more forward looking mills on the island.

Forgot you all. sorry and everything

The sun has been shining in between the hail, rain and wind so I haven't taken much in the way of snaps. So here for your delectation a snap from a short lived slide film study - Fanks for the memory.

I shall go back to sleep now.

Facilities

Oh yes, there are facilities on the island. A  few anyway.

We found these that day we went there - when someone smiled and everything. What a day! I shall write it in my diary. Well, I would if I had one. I did have one once but rarely looked in it to be honest. I have never met someone so disorganised as myself . Apart from other disorganised people - if they remember the right day to turn up or, forget the correct day and turn up on the day I thought it was meant to be. that sort of thing anyway.

The snap was taken on the same roll pf HP5+ in the Hassie as the ones the previous couple of days. Probably.

I'm worried about that man now !

I've been worried about that man. That one I mentioned the other day. Maybe it was yesterday. Who knows? Time goes so quickly some days and others it just drags. Who set time anyway? Was that Slartibartfast too?

Did I tell you that someone said "hello" while we, that's Eve and I, were here. They went on to say something else but I can't remember for the life of me what it was or, why I mention it here.

Hassiewerk

Oh please!

Yes that's is sheeps. They live there along with larger horned beasts and flying creatures great and small. That's not their housey since you ask. At least I don't think it is. There was a man lurking in there doing something.

Don't ask: I have no answers.

Someone smiled at us this day. Not sure they were local so didn't smile back since it was the day before the Sabbath and everything.

We were out and about

This is there, just past the horned beasts that roam hereabouts posing for the tourists when they arrive - as arrive here they most surely will. We saw some touristy types having a fine barbeque down on the beach at the end of this road, the aroma of the smoke pervading the whole area.

The road is just wonderful when it's empty as it mostly is and when one isn't aboard a pedal cycle as we weren't. All up and down, left and right like a over pimped Golden Road. it is without doubt, the finest road on the Western Isles.
