It was a Baldi

I had it with me on a stroll from up there to over there - just round this corner here where I entered a cafe and had a coffee. And a fruit scone with jam.

The man was strolling too, with a dog. A white and black dog with a cold nose. the dog sniffed my troos, was suitably unimpressed and trotted on, followed by its human. This was that human.

Friday's effect

It works. After a fashion.

The Lido

Such a pity.
This incarnation of the Lido cafe closed almost as soon as it opened in Stormoway. Only managed to have one coffee in there before it was gone.

There's no shortage of places to have a cuppa mind. There's the cafe next door to this one - whatever it's called. The Bridge Centre - an excellent place; An Lanntair, Delights, Church Street cafe, the Woodlands, Co-op and possibly some others I've missed!

I shall have to frequent one of those today as I require humans to converse with to help drag myself out of negativity.

Makes me feel spring is maybe coming

It may have been Autumn when I snapped this snap.
The leaves were fallen yet the sun was shining.
I can feel it on my back right now - oh, might be too close to the stove!

Into the shop

I was playing around with this little Ricoh 500g I have - without a working meter and with a sticking rewind thing. The lens looks ok though - even when you run very old fogged HP5 though the camera then develop it in Foma Retro developer.

Tis a fine camera potentially although this one has too many issues to deal with. Not sure why I used it really.

On another note; the weather is nice here innit?

There again

Another snap from Keose. Mr Toots came along too only he had a bad back.

I have made a decision. I shall change the way I spend my day that way I may get to feel better. Do the same thing continually and nothing will change.

Keose

Nice place for a stroll around with a little camera and a Jupiter12 lens. some old 400 film I rated at 1600 and then over developed it in Foma Retro developer.

Slides

I don't use this type of film very much. It is colour don't you know and I don't usually 'do' colour. Only I did when the leaves turned brown, the sun shone and I thought it prudent to fill the Bronnie with Fuji slide film I had.

Mr Toots sent it off to be developed for me and it came back to my possession the other day. I can't seem to get a decent scan though - even using the fine Vuescan software I have. Anyone got any ideas please?

If that isn't snow ......

Yes we had some snow. A little bit. Enough to cover the roads and the fields albeit briefly. I took some snaps of it like you do - the Minolta 505si came out to play so I didn't have to think too much - although when I needed to think to do plus 2 stops for the snow, I was blowed if I could remember what to press. I altered the iso instead and found the requisite button for the stops later.

The sun was shining this day, the day after the day after the other day. It often does that after snow and a bit of a blow like what we have encountered recently.

We did go

Lovely stroll on a beach here on the island on Sunday. All mildish and damp.

I snapped up the occasion with the Petri7s using old 400 film of some sort pushed to 1600 and developed in Foma Retro developer. Works too.

When you are not trying, the images come

Once upon a tyme

The day before the other day when I was out stretching my legs, breathing the crisp air and sliding a bit, I took this snap. I like it. The local youths were running this way and that - with numbers on. A race I suspect.

It wasn't always like this snap I took the day before the other day. Only I toned it without even going in the darkroom. The film development was done in the kitchen where it was less than freezing and the colour done on the pooter.

The effect, such as it is with this snap I took the day before the other day was straight off the film - old very-fogged HP5 @ 1600asa shot through a Jupiter12 lens.
It's those Russians again!

How did that happen?

Pentax Espio 170sl Agfa Vista 200.

I man, what's the dark sky behind the rainbows all about then?

Portraits

I'm still a trying to snap up Mr Toots. He's less than keen to be honest but that makes it all the better.

Surreptitiously this time with a little rf camera. He noticed :-)

Yes I know

Yes you have seen this place before and yes in snow too. But not through this camera lens combo onto this film / developer combo. Eh?

The snow, little as it is, arrived this morning coming down gently and apologetically as fishing boats anchored in the shelter of the island looked on. Wouldn't be surprised if the snow came because thos boats did.

So, dug out the little LeicaIIIa I have with Industar61 lens and ventured out. Like I do. Twas lovely. Met Mr and Mrs Batty, David next door in his castle, [he is very well since you ask] then The Crofter and Mrs Crofter tending the sheeps and finally Mrs UpYours the shoppe who is now safely back home after a wild windy trip to Glasgow to see/hear some modern beat combo with her son James. I might add here as an addendum that James doesn't look like the snap linked - he is all grown up and everything. How does that work?

Still here

Despite the breezy weather, I'm still here. Had a darkroom moment or two yesterday at Mr Toots' place. Nothing much to show for our efforts but good fun all the same.

Hoping Admiral Hales pictured here Ammonite boaty is doing ok in the storms too,,

A road

Petri 7s in the Valtos.

New Project

I started a new photographic project the other day. I hadn't actually realised at the time bit I came home and it all came to me. This may be one of the first of the images for the project.

Once I have a few more snaps in the bag ready for this lot, I'll tell you what it is!

Petri without a dish

Now that is a lovely wall shot with an old Petri 7s.

Lovely place too - Valtos peninsula and everything.

Keep

There it was awaiting me to snap it up.

Not the best example of a fank, all forlorn and less than loved. Still, the mist was hanging over it and I wrestled the camera to the right place and snapped it up. It didn't seem to mind.

Twas a dull old day

Twas, dull, damp and dreich but I went all the same out over to the west side of the island. why you may ask and I cannot even now tell you that. My head started falling off by the time I got to Calanish and even a cup of coffee and a less than brilliant scone couldn't shake the negativity off.

A trip round Great Bernera and Kirkibost  didn't yield much more brightness - either in the sky or my mind. The Hassie came out for a play and captured the scene as I arrived. I got the feeling that it wished it could have stayed in the car.

Ooooh, I like this one

My dearest Eve here awaiting luncheon to arrive at our fav cafe in Stormoway.

I forgive Tri-x completely.

Friday, January 06, 2017

Why does it not 'do it' for me?

Tri-x that is. Film from Kodak with a reputation to die for - and many did while covering the many wars we, the Brits, the Americans and others have sadly been involved with.

I mean, one is supposed to able to shoot the film at ridiculous ISOs and still have usable negs. I shoot it at box speed and still it looks mushy. I don't really like the film base either. Granted I developed in RO9 [Rodinal]  something doesn't look right to me.

Pity since it was a lovely stroll down to Loch Seaforth for a little picnic.

HHHCB in blue

I might have done this before if I'd thought of it, only my cyanotype emulsions had gone to pot and I couldn't get an image out - causing my head to start falling off. I prefer my head on my shoulders so set about re-mixing the chems [ see here ] and lo and behold I have usable emulsion.

The image, I am rather reluctant to divulge, was taken by Eve my lovely partner whilst we sat in bed one sunny morning as the Bat-Cat [HHHCB sat on the window-sill in the sun] came to visit. the resultant shadow on the far wall was captured by Eve's phone. Eh? How does that work then?

Moving swiftly on, I printed out a neg of the image on Fotospeed transfer film, coated some old cartridge paper I had lying around then shove the dried paper under a home made [not by me] UV thing for 15 mins and hey, I had an image. Lightly toned in Tannin/Washing soda.

I think I shall do some experiments with toning - again. I rather like this process and the images.

Under the settee

I was searching about around the seat where I sit when I do 'this'. This being the blog thing. Sometimes I am amiably accompanied by HHHCB who loves to tickle herself with the shards of film that lie thereabouts.  This was one of those shards that caught my attention too.

We were sailing on the Caledonian Canal at the time - up at the Inverness end if I recall correctly. There that tree stood all on it's own so I attempted a float-by snap up that was in retrospect, less than perfectly brilliant. Here it is all the same

Of course I went!

 Took a camera and everything.

It wasn't today. Today being a few days ago Tolsta-time. It was back then when the world seemed a better place.  When all was rosy and we, Eve and I among others went to a wedding. Lovely it was too. Lovely. This is one of my famous wedding snaps. No idea who it is but I like it. It speaks to me.

Part of the work from the Wiesmier Collective. The WC is me, myself and I.
