Lucrecia

Lucrecia is coming for a few days. Oh, how lovely that will be. The kettle is already on. Models are primed. Film de-frosted and everything. Lucrecia will be doing the snapping. Me just looking and learning.

Lucrecia is coming all the way from Cornwall. Eh? How good is that? Very good if you didn't realise. Mater [OBE], Pater and Fred on their way too so bound to have a fine time.

Yes, there are snaps of Lucrecia and Fred on this here blog but you'll have to find them yerselfs as theym don't look like that now - all growed up and all that. Life eh? [unless you click here - Sorry Lucrecia/Fred, couldn't resist]

And, please note, Lucrecia likes me blurred up snaps too - at least that's what she tells me! If Ms Hunter want's to get into the fab Bath Spa Uni course [one of my old uni's ] she'd be better off looking at these snaps here.

In fact, all go and look now while I drink my green tea.

Ti- dum, dum dum dum.

Nice eh?

Looks like an 'orrible day here for a change. The sun that recently bathed us in its cold light has gone and now the wind blows. Cold.

Proper island wall. [and everything]

Lucrecia

We will be going to Lucrecia's betrothal in the not too distant future - all being well. So looking forward to it. Her mother Ellen had the most wonderful birds nest head dress at her own wedding [I have seen the snaps] and I am sure Lucrecia won't let the side down.

This snap was taken days / years ago at Manchester Velodrome as Lucrecia's Ma and Pa were in the training as tandem pilots for the Athens Paralympics. They both both won medals with their respectively partially sighted stokers - Aileen and Ian.

Now, I am not one for telling on people but Eve had two pieces of cake on her birthday. One Coffee and walnut  Made by Gill Price and one "Tom Hickman orange cake".

Gas cylinder with safety buoy

Lucrecia has pronounced.
This is rubbish! She didn't say that but I have translated it since she has been living in the westcountry England for far too long. "Will this be accompanied by other images ?" Lucrecia questioned. "I suppose it has a certain interest" she continued cutting me down to size with that sort of look one remembers from schooldays. I think I remember but it was a while ago. I can imagine at least. I am sure Lucrecia will make a fine teacher.

A snap with beauty from my Images of the island so you don't have to come series.

Managed a short bike ride this morning with Eve in the sunshine. On the old road bike since I had a less than enjoyable problem with the emtb. The front wheel came out while riding slowly uphill. not something I want to repeat so I am getting a torque arm for it.

Lucrecia

Lucrecia eh?
That's Flynn to you. You may have read the name once or twice but can't seem to find too many snaps of her here. Typical photographist she is, has a lovelee portfolio but doesn't appear in front of the lens too much. Now, I insist you go and look at her images [not snaps] and then come back here.

Right, you did come back then? Lovlee images aren't they? I think Lucrecia may have a future doing such things. She an awfully good cook, is a qualified ski instructor too. I hate her!

I don't hate her at all as it happens, just a bit envious of her talents. And age.

Lucrecia

Phew!
Lucrecia has been here for a few days and i'm worn out already. Flipping heck she is getting more like her mother by the moment. Lucrecia is learning up some more photo darkroom techniques before she starts teaching it at some posh southern skool in September - one page ahead of the students and all that. doing me 'ed in I tell e. Pinholes snaps, developing, printing, lumen prints and chemigrams - some of which actually work !
Now I hear Mater and Pater managed to get on the ferry to here so they'll be here later. I am currently looking for the deepest pile carpet to throw myself off the edge of.

The snap is not of or by Lucricia but of dearest Eve who made my recent celebration of the day of my birth so lovely. new socks and everything !

The Wedding

Ice-maidens
Lucrecia
Eve & I were down at Whitby for a wedding recently. Lovely church on a hill overlooking the harbour. The sun was shining, Jon, the handsome and ever-lovely bridegroom was grinning and all was well. Carli the bride looked wonderful and in no time - with a little cajoling from the vicar to us plebians - the two were wed. Out in the sunshine the cameras were shooting this way and that - and some of them at Jon & Carli too. Sir Chris Hoy was there to see it all happen resplendent in his Hebridean tartan kilt. [note to self; tell Chris that Kilts and bouncy castles a good match do not make].
Ellen [and no, I won't forget to mention the O.B.E] was there as well with her hubby Paul and two childs - Lucrecia and Fred - both now too old for their own good. I must say, despite staying in a B&B that was singularly uninspiring["Would you like the room with the four poster bed?" ; yes please we say only to find the thing was a few peices of 2x2 with some rag over the ends!] , and later sleeping in a teepee at the reception field - we had a wonderful time. I mean, even The Jam Man was there.

Harrrrrr! and all that sort of thing

How is that for a view to while away your working day. If you have any energy left after pedalling a metre or two of Tweed, feeding the sheeps and cooking the tea. Eh? It's down Lemreway way.

"HARRRR!"
Oh yes, it's where the Viking and his lovely wife work, keep Icelandic sheeps and smile a lot. And why shouldn't they? I took Ms Lucrecia Olivia Flynn Hunter, a fashion / editorial photographer down there to see them. That's the sort of thing I'm known to do. I mean, The Croation Man from Croatia visited there after all.

Ms photographer got distracted though. Wanted to feed the sheeps. Tickle their noses and smile at the Viking. Keith the Viking. Did I not tell you he was a Keith?

This is Keith The Viking with Mr Hunter, Lucrecia Olivia Flynn Hunter's assistant/driver/funder. I would show you a snap of Ms L-O-F-Hunter but she'd probably take a contract out on me, so I won't.

We had a fine time all the same. Many thanks to Viking Keith and Liz.
And William and Gemma too who made us most welcome.

Damp

 Mr Windy

Toots Wilson

Yep it's raining. Rained all last night and looks like it's going to rain all day.

Bin out collecting papers, bread milk etc for the village shoppe this morning - windscreen wipers on overtime - and now picture making calls. Cartridge paper has already been coated with a new cyanotype mix since I gave the last lot to Lucrecia. Since you ask, Lucrecia is not her real name but she has been known to me as that for years now as she fits the name perfectly - and not Flynn as she was christened.

As I write I have another oil-print exposing. What a phaff that's turning out to be. A disaster as big as my gum prints - which don't work for me either. But I keep trying. This time I did three coats of gelatin on the paper and one of Pot. Dichromate.  Later, when I have washed it, dried it and wetted it again the oil-based ink will be applied. There might even be an image at the end of it. Wonders never cease!

In the meantime, I'm wondering if Toots had a rough ferry crossing this morning as there is a bit of a blow - force 8-9 they say. He's off down to wettish Cumbria for a few days leaving his new wife to mind the gaff.

I posted the snap of Mr Windy as I like it. And it might encourage him to re-start posting on Windy Wandering Blog.

Another blog I see from time to time even gave this blog a mention :-) Try unknown photos blog for yourself.

Sorry and everything

It was a mistake I know. This snap taken with the old KOWA6 camera I no longer have, crept up on me this morning and begged to be shown. I showed it.

This delightful image shows Frederick Hunter nicking the last biscuit or something as Mr National Paralympic cycling manager/coach Norfolk looks on and and Fred's sister Lucrecia reads. This was a few years ago I might add. Fred's all grown up now - at least I hope he is since he is at uni now. Lucrecia is wowing the fashion world with her photography at Uni too while Mr Norfolk is still Mr Norfolk - although now married and with a delightful daughter of his own.

How time passes!

This was the wedding [2]

This chimney sweep arrived too late to sweep the chimney of the church stove but stayed for the wedding anyway!
The Great Elviski - all the way from Poland via Manc - wows the happy couple in the reception teepee. Ugh Huh!

Baron von Hoyster with my nephew, now actor and former track cyclist Joby [on the right. Sir Chris on the left. Yes, that's it] after a glass of champagne. Or two.
Mr Hunter has breakfast on the balcony of La Rosa. The church of the wedding in the background - next to the ruined Abbey
Lucrecia and Ellen prepare to look fab
The clan in La Rosa having high[ish] tea

Just back from the weekly Lewis Photographica coffee session and find myself still suffering from some ghastly bug that seems to be ravaging my bod at the moment. I have only enough energy to scan a neg or two before retiring to bed and then out to work later [life eh? ].

Well, since I took a couple of rolls of colour film while away I have started to have a look at what I can salvage from these. Not convinced with colour really. Seems far too complicated so I have converted some to monochrome - which is far from satisfactory but will have to suffice till I get this new fangled colour thing sorted. Any colour change of the image is purely due to my incompetence - or if you like it - due to my brilliance! Apologies for the slight blotchiness in some images but it appears that the lab technician who processed these colour negs for me must have washed her hair in the chemicals first!

Tweed

Anyone know about Tweed? I know a bit. We are surrounded by the stuff up here. Weavers all over the place including here in the village. Yes, we live on Lewis and the tweed up here is called Harris Tweed. Virtually all the weavers for Harris Tweed are on Lewis - makes sense doesn't it!

Even Keith The Viking weaver is on Lewis. The mills are on Lewis too. That's where the cloth is finished. Woven in the weavers at home and finished in the factory then sold to the world.

There's a posh tweed shoppe in the toon - Stornoway that is - but I can't afford to look in there. But there's hope as there is the Lewis tweed centre [or something like that] on Bayhead located up a ginnel in an old decrepit building. It's great inside though. Mr Man is very interesting, the place is full of 'stuff' tweed. So took the girl Olivia Lucrecia Flynn Hunter to see him with her handler Dad Hunter.

This was then.

Surrounded

Caught on the stack

Obviously the weather has taken a turn for the worse since Lucrecia and family are on their way from Cornwall.

With the rain coming down, the beach seemed a good idea - and along with the pinhole camera we had some fun on the beach. Yes, I'm on the stack as the tide comes in!

We had a row

The day before The Great River Race, we had a row in a nice little row-boat hired from the wonderful Hammerton's ferry in Ham on the Thames. Eve rowed to Richmond and I held the oars on the way back while the tide flooded in - and did it ever move fast! But not before I'd snapped up Eve with the little Pentax Espio mini.

And then Eve returned to compliment as I pouted. Well, Lucrecia told me it was the thing to do.

I'm hoping I have a snap of two I might print in the near future. When my back has fallen back into place after the 2000 miles of driving we did whilst away from the island.

yes i spoke to her mum

Time paasses so quickly as young Lucrecia here is getting married in the not too distant. She is somewhat older now and sporting unlike when I took this snap at work at the Manchester Velodrome while Ma, Pa and fred her brother played on the track.

Gone

On what proved a whistle stop visit of four days, the Hunters have now left the island. All is quiet and no-longer am I being rebuked by dogs three for dancing, singing or just being. No I have no snaps of them. Why Would I snap them up after all? I spent years working with their owners, travelling with their owners and that's enough for anyone.

Still, twas lovely seeing them all, Lucrecia and I spent spent happy hours snapping here and there, developing, printing and just looking. Nice.

It wasn't always dry.

The Crofter has been feeding the coows

The house is very quiet now as my dear Eve and I relax.

Their home is where the Hunters are

The Hunter family. Well Harrison the rower who in this snap in their lounge readying himself for a bike ride to the cafe [where else?] and Ellen herself O.B.E multi world champion and the like - formerly that is. Just keeps herself active these days. Fairly active.

Still, we stayed with them the other week in their current gaff in Cheshire. Just a couple of days to make sure our mutual friend Jon Norfolk leaves the country to work with Aus cycling after working with British Cycling for years. We'll miss him.

We won't miss Ellen, Paul, Harrison and Lucrecia as they will be in the UK for the moment.

forgive me, i have been off the rock

this should have been posted on the Friday last but I was too busy coming back to the rock after a few days seeing trees and things on the mainland.

This drawing is by Tri-athlete, photographer and all round Majorca based person Lucrecia [aka Flynn]Hunter. I would link to her work online I can only find this
